Lobbying in EU Agricultural Policymaking within the Green Deal

MSc thesis vacancy

Description

We are excited to announce an MSc thesis vacancy that focuses on unraveling the intricate political dynamics of lobbying within the context of European Union (EU) agricultural policymaking. Given the EU's pivotal role in shaping global agricultural policies, a nuanced understanding of the political intricacies surrounding lobbying is crucial for effective governance and sustainable agricultural practices.

The selected candidate will have the unique opportunity to investigate and analyse the diverse stakeholders involved in the EU agricultural policymaking process, shedding light on key influencers and their impact on policy outcomes. The thesis will specifically emphasize a political science or policy science approach, concentrating on the strategies employed by agricultural interest groups, non-governmental organizations, and industry representatives to influence policies governing the agricultural sector in the EU.

Potential research avenues may include scrutinizing the role of lobbying in shaping specific dimensions of agricultural policy, such as subsidies, trade agreements, and environmental regulations. The successful candidate will be encouraged to focus on a political or policy science lens, leveraging theories and methodologies inherent to these disciplines to comprehensively understand the intricate interplay between stakeholders and policymaking institutions.

Applicants should possess a robust academic background in political science, policy science, or closely related fields. Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research methods is highly desirable. The research findings are expected to contribute significant insights to political and policy sciences, offering valuable implications for academics, policy practitioners, and stakeholders engaged in EU agricultural policymaking.

Interested candidates are invited to submit their applications, including a CV and a concise research proposal outlining their political science or policy science approach to investigating lobbying in EU agricultural policymaking. For further inquiries, please contact dr. Jeroen Candel.
