Hydrometeorology

Hydrometeorology is a branch of meteorology that specifically deals with the study of the hydrological cycle and its interaction with the atmosphere. It focuses on understanding the processes that govern the distribution, movement, and transformation of water in various forms, such as precipitation, evaporation, and runoff. Hydrometeorologists use a combination of meteorological and hydrological data to analyze and predict weather-related impacts on water resources, flooding, and other hydrological phenomena.

Research topics

  • Hydrometeorological measurements & modeling in urban areas
  • The role of water storage within the urban climate combining hydrology and meteorology to deepen the understanding of the interaction between the energy and water balance
  • Deepening our understanding of (shallow) precipitation observations from space.
  • Characterizing rainfall using microwave links
