Universitair docent

As an assistant professor at the Sociology of Development & Change group, Sumit's research focuses on the questions of power, specifically on (peri)urban and transboundary (river basins and underground aquifers) water/climate politics and power interplay between actors. Focusing on the interplay between state and non-state actors, his research explains power dynamics for environmental issues in the Asian sub-continent. It allows Sumit to understand and explain how water/climate governance shapes up and why policies are the way they are. Simply put, his research will answer why certain voices are heard, and others are marginalised. Sumit's research uses qualitative methods and an ethnographic approach.

Sumit's work has been published in several international peer-reviewed environmental journals such as Land Use Policy, Urban Studies, Geoforum, Policy Sciences, Futures, Nature Water, Nature Humanities & Social Sciences, Climate & Development, WIREs Climate Change, and WIREs Water.

Birding and photography keep Sumit occupied outside his professional role.
