Is your ORCID iD the lucky number?

In December 2023, WUR Library is organising an ORCID lottery to stimulate researchers to get an ORCiD iD and connect it with Pure. All WUR researchers with an ORCID iD can participate and have a chance to win a €50 book voucher or a personalized mug with their unique ORCID.

ORCID: the unique identifier for researchers

ORCID stands for Open Researcher and Contributor IDentifier. It’s a persistent digital identifier that distinguishes you and your work from other researchers and their work. ORCID is supported by thousands of institutions, publishers and other organisations involved in research. It has become an important part of the global research infrastructure.

Why get an ORCID iD?

  • An ORCID reliably connects you with your work, awards, and affiliations, preventing mistaken identity and incorrect attributions.
  • ORCID is integrated into many systems and research workflows, such as manuscript submissions, grant applications, bibliographic databases etc.
  • Having an ORCID saves you time because you can automatically have your profile filled/updated from your other researcher profiles
  • As your ORCID iD is persistent, you can use it throughout your career.
  • You own and control your record, managing what information is connected and how it is shared.

Get an ORCID iD

If you don’t have an ORCID iD yet, you can easily set up an ORCID account at orcid.org. Registering is quick, easy, and free. Not sure if you already have an ORCID iD? Go to orcid.org and enter your name in the top bar. ORCID has created several video tutorials on how to get started, and how to update and manage your account that might be helpful, see https://orcid.org/help.

Connect your ORCID iD with your Pure account

Don’t forget to link your ORCID profile to your Pure account (our Research Information System). This way your ORCID page is automatically updated with your research results in Pure. Use this 'ORCID-Pure step by step' manual to quickly set up the Pure-ORCID connection.

If your ORCID and Pure account are connected, your Oricd iD will be entered twice in the lottery!

To compete in the lottery, please fill in the Lottery form. Your ORCID iD is your lottery number. When you’ve connected your ORCID profile to your Pure account, your ORCID number will be entered twice in the lottery, so you have double the chance to win!

Drawing and prizes

  • Your ORCID iD is also your lottery number.
  • The Library will randomly select the winners from the submissions.
  • 3 winners will receive a €50 book voucher.
  • 10 winners will receive a beautiful coffee mug with their 16 digit ORCID number.
  • The drawing will take place on 18 December, so make sure you send the lottery participation form to us before midnight on 17 December 2023.
  • The winners will be announced on the Library’s website and receive an email within a week.
