Empowering Lignin research with a WikiLignin
In a collaborative project with researchers from Wageningen Food & Biobased Research, the Library used its expertise in literature searching and bibliographic databases to create a robust knowledge-sharing platform within the LignoCOST Network.
In collaboration with LignoCost members, WUR Library has created the WikiLignin literature database. The WikiLignin also serves as a knowledge tool in the 'Knowledge book LignoCOST.'
I came to the Library because you have experience setting up a database and linking it to a website. This has worked out very well, it was a great collaboration. We're very pleased with the WikiLignin database.
The LignoCost project was initiated and is coordinated by Richard Gosselink, Senior Researcher at Wageningen Food & Biobased Research. The project aims to establish a robust network that covers the entire value chain in which relevant knowledge is produced while focusing on lignin valorization. The goal of the network is to simulate sustainable applications. Only by working together can this information be gathered to cover the technical, non-technical, environmental, and socio-economic implications of the most promising lignin value chains.
Within the LignoCOST community, the WikiLignin is highly valued and used as a starting point for lignin-related research. We've also added industrial information, such as producers and volumes in the Lignin Knowledge book to create a complete overview
More about lignin
Lignin is a large byproduct from the pulp and paper industry and is released during conversion of lignocellulosic biomass into bioethanol or biochemicals. Lignin has the potential to become the future aromatic raw material for the industry, but is largely underexploited due to lack of information on industrial availability, sustainable applications and environmental footprint.
