On 1 February Monique van Oers has taken up her new position as Chair Holder of the Laboratory of Virology. She is taking over from Just Vlak who acted as interim Chair Holder for a number of years after the death of Rob Goldbach.

In the past Monique already worked at the Laboratory of Virology as Associate Professor and research leader of a group focusing on insect viruses. In the years ahead the Chair Group will focus on plant and insect viruses. And the Group will also study the transmission of viruses by insects to humans and animals, focusing on the interactions between virus and host/vector.

Monique started her scientific career as PhD at Virology in Wageningen. After two postdoc positions in Leiden and Utrecht Monique returned to Wageningen in 1999 where she co-funded her research by acquiring an NWO-MEERVOUD (More Women Researchers as University Lecturers) subsidy entitled: Genetic basis of baculovirus-induced host behaviour.
