The aim of the Rhodes professorship is to strenghten the master phase at Cornell University by inviting guests with an excellent track record. The education at both Cornell University Cornell University and Wageningen University rank among the top three universities in the field of food and agriculture. A good relationship between the two universities already exists and the appointment of Dicke as Rhodes Professor will only help to further strengthen this bond.

Once a year, Dicke will go to Cornell to contribute to the education, particularly in the field of chemical ecology of insect-plant interactions. His first visit will take place in the summer of 2013 at which time he will stay in Cornell University for three months.

In addition, several other reciprocal visits between Wageningen and Cornell have been planned. This exchange will be an important boost for research into the role of chemical communication in the environments of plants and insects.
