The role of lactate dehydrogenase in (hypoxic) adipose tissue

To provide a literature review about one or more questions related to lactate dehydrogenase.

Background: Excessive adipose tissue as in obesity leads to local tissue hypoxia. This has major effects on metabolism, including substrate usage. One possibility is anaerobic glycolysis converting glucose into lactate, which is subsequently secreted into the blood stream. The final step is performed by lactate dehydrogenase. This is in fact a protein complex consisting of different proteins. It is well known that different compositions of these proteins in different tissues exist.

Questions that can be asked are: What is the underlying mechanism determining the exact composition of proteins within (white) adipose tissue? How is regulation of the enzyme complex achieved (transcription, translation, etc.)?

Aims: To provide a literature review about one or more questions related to lactate dehydrogenase (the exact topic will be determined together with the supervisor).
