Fish condition seems crucial factor in survival

For the past six years, Wageningen Marine Research and VisNed have been investigating the chances of survival of undersized flatfish, rays and Norway lobsters after the catch. The most important determining factor for survival is the condition of the fish: fish that comes on board damaged has virtually no chance. In order to reduce fishing mortality from unwanted by-catch, more attention should therefore be paid to selective fishing methods.
