Sai Sushma Boggarapu: My thesis was a mix of engaging lab work, bioinformatics, and plenty of challenges

During my time in the Laboratory of Nematology, I had an incredible opportunity to work on two genes that are hypothesized to underlie resistance against potato cyst nematode in a wild potato species. My thesis was a mix of engaging lab work, bioinformatics, and plenty of challenges.

Despite the challenges, it has been a wonderful learning experience. My supervisor provided me a supportive environment to ask him questions whenever required without any hesitation. I had an opportunity to make decisions independently, conduct various experiments in the lab, and learn on my own. The guidance and support of my supervisor has helped me achieve my learning objectives.

Furthermore, whenever things didn’t work out as expected, there were always people around me who were willing to offer valuable suggestions. I genuinely appreciate their support. The weekly thesis rings have provided the opportunity to know about fellow thesis students’ work and engage in discussions

During my time at Nematology, I have developed personally and professionally. Reflecting on my journey, I have learnt a lot about myself and gained confidence in my skills as a researcher. Choosing to pursue my Research Practice at the Laboratory of Nematology was undoubtedly a decision that I am immensely grateful for and truly cherish.
