Singapore's dynamic science scene will captivate our young scientist minds for one and a half weeks, showcasing groundbreaking innovations from this part of the globe. We eagerly await a journey filled with immersive tours of cutting-edge labs and innovative enterprises, stimulating dialogues, enriching networking sessions, and enlightening talks that bridge two worlds. Reflecting the diverse specialties within our interdisciplinary team at Wageningen, the subjects we'll explore will be manifold. Beyond science, we're thrilled to immerse ourselves in Singapore's rich culture and hope to foster meaningful connections with local researchers, igniting an exchange of fresh insights and ideas.

Why Singapore?

Brimming with vibrancy in every corner, tiny Singapore punches well above its weight on the world stage. Historically, it stands as a testament to rapid transformation, evolving from a small fishing village to a bustling metropolis in just a few decades. Today, Singapore is recognized as a major global financial hub, bridging the East and the West with its strategic location and multifaceted economy. Its rich tapestry of cultures – a blend of Malay, Chinese, Indian, and Western influences – is evident in its cuisine, festivals, and architecture.

Beyond its economic prowess and cultural vibrancy, Singapore is emerging as a powerhouse in the realm of science and technology. The city-state's forward-thinking approach has fostered a robust research ecosystem, attracting top scientists and innovators from around the world. With state-of-the-art facilities and a keen focus on biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and sustainability, Singapore is not just a hub of commerce but a beacon of scientific advancement as well.

About us

At the heart of our Bioprocess Engineering department, you'll find a vibrant hive of PhDs, each a maestro in their own right:

  • Biomanufacturing & Digital Twins: Leading the bio-revolution, we're weaving the digital and biological fabrics together, making Mother Nature proud while dialing down our reliance on good ol' petroleum.
  • Microbial Biotechnology: With micro-magicians that have been turning grapes into wine and curd into cheese for eons, we're now amplifying their potential. Their new encore? Sustainable chemicals and fuels, with a touch of yeast-fueled ethanol brilliance.
  • Microalgal Biotechnology: Taking a sunlit dive, we channel the photosynthetic prowess of microorganisms to whip up a variety of products, be it food, fuel, or anything in between. Got an algae question? Our outdoor pilot facility is the place to bask in.
  • Animal Cell Biotechnology: We’re the backstage crew ensuring CHO cells and their insect counterparts are set to give stellar biopharmaceutical performances. And did we mention our fondness for sponge-made masterpieces?
  • Biorefinery: Tapping into nature's pantry, we're gently coaxing algae, seaweed, and bacteria to part with their molecular treasures. Because why roughhouse when you can refine?

Together, we're crafting the A to Z of bio-production, from gene tweaks to gleaming beakers!
