Caring for food/waste in the city

Morrow, Oona

Summary

Urban food commons are critical for nourishing the post-growth city. In this talk I discuss the ways in which food (un)becoming waste can become a site for commoning and more-than-human care in the city. I explore the role of grassroots socio-technical infrastructures, such as community fridges and community composting, in opening up alternative bodily, emotional, and ethical orientations. Finally I consider the wider urban, legal, and economic geographies that these practices disrupt and reshape in different ways, by claiming space for careful circularity in the city.
