Biodiversity and agriculture : bending the curve of biodiversity loss

van Apeldoorn, D.F.

Summary

Monocultures are a big threat to biodiversity in agriculture. The solution, according to WUR Agronomist Dirk van Apeldoorn, member of the Wageningen Biodiversity Initiative, is to reduce the areas – for example by strip cropping – and to combine different species. Van Apeldoorn: “We have to work with nature instead of against it. If we include biodiversity in food production, we will have a far better future, rather than a dystopia.”
