Awad is a Sudanese professional with a background in Civil Engineering. He earned his B.Sc. degree from the University of Khartoum in 2018 and continued his academic journey by successfully completing a Master's program in Earth and Environment (specialized in hydrology and water resources) at Wageningen University in August 2023.

During the 3-year period between his undergraduate and postgraduate studies, Awad gained valuable experience by working at the Water Research Center in Sudan. In this role, he actively contributed to research focusing on hydrological drought and dams management within the Nile basin. His expertise spans various areas, including the utilization of remote sensing technology in ungauged basins, hydrological modeling for effective water resources management, and the integration of machine learning techniques with hydrological modeling. During his M.Sc., Awad did his internship with Deltares, working towards improving the accuracy of the wflow_sbm hydrological model using machine learning.

Being nominated to join WIMEK honours research programme, his PhD proposal was offered a 4-year PhD grant. In November 2023, Awad started his Ph.D. journey, where his research is dedicated to the development and validation of an innovative global dataset aimed at enhancing transparent water management in transboundary basins.
