Students once more elect WUR as the best university of the Netherlands
For the 19th consecutive time, the Keuzegids has named Wageningen University & Research the best university of the Netherlands. The quality of the educational programmes in Wageningen continues to rise: 16 out of 19 assessed programmes were awarded the predicate ‘top-rated programme’.
Every year, the Keuzegids ranks Dutch educational institutions, primarily based on student opinions. The 2024 ranking puts WUR at the very top of its category, with the highest total score of all universities. This makes WUR the best Dutch university of technology, too.
According to the Keuzegids, WUR has an above-average or significantly above-average score in nearly all areas of expertise. WUR scored especially well in the fields of Language and Communication, Economy and Business and Technology and Design.
16 top-rated programmes in various fields
The Tourism joint degree received a full five-star rating, just like the bachelor programmes of Plant Sciences and Soil, Water, Atmosphere. Most other Wageningen programmes received an excellent score of 4.5 stars. A total of 16 programmes were named ‘top-rated programmes’. Last year, 13 out of the 19 Wageningen programmes received this predicate.
Arthur Mol, rector magnificus of Wageningen University & Research, thanks students and employees for their contribution. ‘To me, this is a confirmation of the consistent, high quality of our education’, Mol states. ‘Of course, I am very satisfied about the high and increasing number of top-rated programmes. The fact that we were elected best Dutch university for the 19th time in a row is the result of the passion with which Wageningen lecturers and employees work to convey their knowledge to their students. They deserve the greatest of compliments for that.’
Students share their opinions
The Keuzegids draws on various criteria to compile the rankings. The student assessment is based on the National Student Survey (NSE), which was filled out by nearly 300,000 students in 2023. In this survey, students were asked how satisfied they were with their programme and institution, among other things. This year, the Keuzegids also considered programme performance figures, the influx per programme and labour market statistics (job opportunities and starting salaries). That way, prospective students and parents have access to an elaborate overview of the quality of all Dutch programmes.
