Wageningen University education started at NTU Singapore

Lecturers of Wageningen University started teaching food courses to students of the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. The kick-off of the new major 'Food Science & Technology', followed by 29 top NTU students, was on Wednesday 20 August.

Wageningen University professors give lessons via interactive online lectures. Only to supervise the practical classes at NTU laboratories they will fly to Singapore.

The NTU students participating in this honours programme do this in addition to their undergraduate eductaion at NTU. Therefore, in Singapore this type of programme is referred to as a second major. Upon graduation, the students will receive a certificate in Food Science & Technology, in addition to their degree. 

This programme will expose the students to food science and technology with relevance to the local and international food industry sector, broadening the students' career options after graduation.

Rector Wageningen University at kick-off

Professor Martin Kropff, Rector Magnificus of Wageningen University, held a motivational speech at the kick-off on August 20th. Other introductions were given by Prof Teoh Swee Hin from NTU, Prof Harry Gruppen from Wageningen University and Dr Eline van der Beek from Danone Nutricia Early Life Nutrition.

International Conference on Asian Food Security

On Thursday 21 August Prof Martin Kropff was also one of the keynote speakers at the ‘International Conference on Asian Food Security’ in Singapore. The title of his speech was ‘Achieving food and nutrition security in a growing world of scarcity: the role of scientific innovations’.
