Invitation and Program Final Symposium LP3LP

The final symposium of the LP3LP project is open to the general public and will be held in the Statenzaal of the Provincial Government in Maastricht on the 14th of May 2014 from 13.30-17.30 hours. The working language of the symposium is English and the entrance to this public event is free.

Important elements of the  ESPON project LP3LP are: to define the European identity of 3LP; to design a cross-border landscape perspective for the future developments of the 3LP and to formulate an interface between the landscape perspective and EU policy. By doing this, information is provided on different ways landscape can contribute to the development of regions. The LP3LP project started in February 2012 and ends with this public presentation on the 14th May 2014.

 

During this symposium, the Transnational Project Group, consisting of the universities of Aachen, Wageningen and Brussels, will present the final results of the LP3LP project. You are cordially invited to get acquainted with these results, to give your reactions and your ideas for future development of the 3LP.

Where

The Statenzaal in the southernmost part of the Provincial Government buildings on the island.

You can reach the Statenzaal by walking around the main building over the bridge crossing the Papenwater (entrance 2).

Before heading to the Statenzaal, you may have a look at the exhibition “Mapping the Charlemagne Region” in the Entrance Hall, by entering the main entrance 1 straight from the main parking area (P).

 The Three Countries Park and the LP3LP project

The Three Countries Park (3LP) is a collaborative effort of nine public partners in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. Their common aim is to preserve and to manage the countryside area around the so-called MHHAL cities (Maastricht, Hasselt, Heerlen, Aachen and Liège) in a sustainable manner.

The area represents the “green heart of the Euregio Meuse-Rhine” and is characterised by a strong diversity between these major cities and the surrounding rural countryside, and blessed with a rich variety of cultural, historic, landscape, and natural values.

Its important landscape assets provide a strong added value for regional attractiveness. Nevertheless, a cross-border perspective is required to guide rapid landscape transformation such as counter urbanization, economic diversification or agricultural intensification. In that perspective the LP3LP project aims at developing a cross-border 3LP landscape policy for the preservation, development and management of the 3LP landscape.

The LP3LP project is financed by the ESPON 2013 Programme, the European Observation Network for Territorial Development and Cohesion. For more information on the LP3LP project see:

The final report will be published on the website of ESPON in the first half of April 2014

 

The Stakeholders of the project are the Province of Limburg (The Netherlands, Lead Stakeholder), Wallonia Public Service (Belgium), the Flemish Region (Belgium), City Region of Aachen (Germany), City of Aachen (Germany). Observers of the project are Province of Limburg (Belgium) and Cologne Government Regional Office (Germany).

 

The Transnational Project Group (TPG) is composed by Aachen University Department of Landscape Architecture (RWTH, Lead Partner), Wageningen University Landscape Architecture Group, and Free University of Brussels (IGEAT).
