Wageningen University, Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences and Stoas University of Applied Sciences are organising joint Annual Introduction Days (AID) for new students from 15 to 20 August 2014. The new BSc and MSc students will be treated to a fun and varied programme.

The organisers are expecting a record number of participants on the campus: 2,000 new students and 400 mentors. The 160 crew members and 5 AID board members have compiled an intensive programme to introduce the new BSc and MSc students to their fellow-students, student life, Wageningen, their new living environment and new hobbies.

Every year approximately 95% of new students take part in the AID in groups of 10 (Dutch and international students), accompanied by 2 student mentors ('AID mum and dad'). They participate in several activities with their group, party at the student associations and hear all kinds of useful information about their study programme and the city of Wageningen. A lot of groups stay in touch after the AID and for some students, the AID is the start of a life-long friendship.

A few of the activities on offer

  • Challenging Campus Games, all around the campus

  • Visit to University Sports Centre de Bongerd and Wageningen sports clubs
  • Guided tour of various buildings (Orion, Forum, Leeuwenborch, Radix and Technotron)

  • Introduction to study programme and classmates

  • Introduction to a number of student associations

  • Making and enjoying music (cantus) and a comedy night in the festival tent on the campus

Sustainable

As in 2013 sustainability is a priority during the AID. Green power is used, waste is sorted for recycling, bikes are used for transport, food comes from regional producers and any left-over food is taken to the Food Bank, Monday is a ‘Meatless Monday’, there’s a ‘Green Corner’ on the festival site, a water tap and a sale of reconditioned second-hand bikes. All these measures are designed to keep the AID footprint to a minimum and maintain the good reputation of the AID organisation team and Wageningen University. In spring 2014, for the second year running, Wageningen University won the SustainaBul-Award for the most sustainable university or university of applied sciences in the Netherland.
