Wageningen Water Governance Platform (WWGP)

The Wageningen Water Governance Platform (WWGP) bridges social and applied science groups at Wageningen University and Research as a forum for discussion and outreach on issues of water governance in the Wageningen domain. The founding chair groups are Sociology of Development and Change (SDC), Public Administration and Policy (PAP) and Water Resources Management (WRM), though we welcome colleagues from other WUR groups and alumni. In fact we often (co)-organise events related to water governance in collaboration with other interested groups such as WEnR and the Network Land and Water.

We approach governance as a normative as well as an empirical phenomenon - even apparent anarchy is a form of governance, and technical-managerial developments may have a strong if underestimated governance component. We seek to avoid the trappings of institutional or environmental determinism and water-centric tunnel vision. Four main but non-exhaustive themes we focus on are Water imaginaries, ‘Institutional spaghetti’; Representation, recognition and redistribution; and Water infrastructure and technology.

In close collaboration with TU Delft (TBM) and Deltares, the WWGP edits the relaunched, peer-reviewed International Journal of Water Governance. As we see academic publishing as a public service, the journal is free to read, free to publish in. The journal is on the Open Journal System (OJS), managed and supported by the TU Delft Library. The journal welcomes academic articles as well as professional viewpoints, and is open to thematic Special Issues or Special Sections related to water governance.
