Perhaps the human being is a biological machine. But ethics casts fundamental doubt on the dominant current practice that it is just to equate with the proliferation of machines since the rise of mechanization. The lecture has been recorded and can be watched here.

Mogobe Ramose

Mogobe Ramose is Professor of Philosophy at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University, South Africa, and emeritus Professor Extraordinarius in Philosophy at the University of South Africa and Professor of Philosophy at the University of Limpopo, Sovenga, South Africa, and member of the Department of Jurisprudence in the Faculty of Law, Pretoria University, South Africa. His research interests include African philosophy and ethics. He is known for his award winning book African Philosophy through Ubuntu (1999) and has widely published in numerous journals and edited collections.

Organization

This UNESCO lecture was conducted under patronage of Unesco Netherlands Commission, as part of the Unesco World Philosophy Day 2023 'Artificial Intelligence (AI) and mental health: opportunities and challenges.'
