New PhD candidate Nila Kamil
Nila Kamil started her PhD at the Environmental Policy Group on in November 2015. She is working on an independent research on the transparency aspect in climate change governance in Developing Countries.
The focus of the research is to analyse the agreement on transparency framework at international level, and its implementation as MRV (Measuring, Reporting and Verification) system at national level. She will conduct field work in China, India and Indonesia.
Nila took her bachelor study at University of Indonesia, majoring in International Relations Sciences. She completed her Master in Climate Studies in Wageningen, with track in environmental policy. Her master thesis was titled Feasibility and Justification of Climate Mitigation Actions MRV in Developing Countries: Comparative Analysis of China and Indonesia. During her master time, she conducted internship at Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit/GIZ in Jakarta and worked on the field of climate mitigation actions and MRV. The master study inspired her to pursue PhD as an furtherance of her research.
Currently, Nila is on study leave from her work as government official at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia, Directorate General of Climate Change control. She has experiences in following International Climate Change Negotiation Forum UNFCCC, was involved in the development of Ministerial Regulation on National MRV System for National and Local Mitigation Actions Plan for GHGs Emission Reduction (RAN/RAD GRK), the development of the framework for Indonesia’s Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) and the development of Indonesia Biennial Update Report (BUR) and intended Nationally Determined Contribution (iNDC).
