ENP colleague Gert Spaargaren was interviewed by the Dutch newspaper 'Algemeen Dagblad' about the role citizens play in seperating waste in the Netherlands.

Currently seperating waste in the Netherlands is experiencing several problems. Containers are removed or waste, which is seperated by citizens, is collected and thrown on one big pile of garbage. This raises questions for citizens who make the effort to seperate the waste. Gert Spaargaren explains that one of the problem is the lack of acknowledgement or apprectiation on behalf of municipalities and recycling companies regarding the contribution citizens make for waste seperation. Only a trend reversal can bring back the initial enthusiasm related to waste seperation in the 1990s.
