We are looking for

The Laboratory of Geo-information science and Remote Sensing at Wageningen University (NL) together with KU Leuven Public Governance Institute (BE)  are offering a PhD position in the context of the STW program Maps4Society for the project 'Governance for effective Spatial Data Infrastructures'.

KU Leuven Public Governance Institute is an internationally oriented and interdisciplinary research institute that focuses on different aspects of public governance

Spatial data infrastructures are worldwide used for supporting societal spatially-oriented decisions. Good governance of these infrastructures is not easy due to their open, multi-stakeholder and network character. Within this project both theoretical and practical knowledge will be obtained on the governance of these infrastructures (in terms of governance structures, task allocations, coordination, responsibilities, roles, etc.), which will be formalized in a SDI-governance model. With this model various governance policy scenarios will be simulated. The scenario results are used by the stakeholders to discuss good governance strategies for SDI. Empirical data from both The Netherlands and Belgium are used, which allows for cross-border comparison and application of the governance model.

We ask

The candidate should have a finished MSc in geo-information science and/or public administration science (or be almost ready to submit his/her thesis). For this project it is further required that candidates have experiences with model development and scientific writing.

The candidate should speak Dutch for communication with Dutch and Belgium stakeholders. Finally, experiences with spatial data infrastructures and/or organizational management are very welcomed.

We offer

A full-time appointment (1.0 fte, 38 hours/week) for a period of 18 months with extension of 30 months. Salary ranges from € 2125,- (gross) in the first year to € 2717,-(gross) in the fourth year based on full-time employment.
