Human - space interaction

This field has a strong social aspect. By realizing that human behaviour is one of the most important drivers of change of the environment we seek for concepts, methods and models which explicitly include the human influence.

Focus is on measuring and modelling individual behaviour of people as integrated part of environmental systems. The goal is to better understand and develop methods and techniques which enable a better design and management of social-ecological systems.

Our research on human-space interaction includes the following research topics:

  • concepts and methods to communicate spatial information and enhance public participation;
  • the theory of complex adaptive systems, and the application of agent-based modelling;
  • study of human movement behaviour.
